Kote is a Japanese word for hand armor, originating from the era of the Japanese Samurai. Today, Kote is used by kendoka (people who practice kendo) to protect their hands from the shinai, a bamboo sword. While modern Kote have fingers, traditional samurai Kote were fingerless for a better grip on their sword.
